CREATION VOODOO HISTORY

   It is relatively easy to learn what children are taught in school by examining the textbooks they use.  Textbook dependency is pronounced in Christian schools and the textbooks they purchase from Christian textbook publishers differ from the secular materials used in public and other nonpublic schools in several ways. Textbooks published for Christian schools have the following distinctive characteristics:

   1. Intermixing of religious and non religious material;

   2. Intermingling of persuasive and factual material;

   3. Definite moralizing passages at every educational level; and

   4. Frequent uses of Biblical quotes and many references to Bible verses at all levels and in every subject.

Two of the largest Christian book publishers are A Beka Books of Pensacola, Florida and Bob Jones University Press of Greenville, South Carolina. Both    place    their     major emphasis on fundamental Christian beliefs in all of their text books at every level. Selecting quotes from   these two publishers was a difficult task. The following are but a small example of the misinformation and religion presented in these textbooks that are used at the high school level.

  ------------------------------------------------”The sacraments. As the Roman church evolved, many fundamental doctrines of Christianity were also distorted, including the doctrine of salvation. Soon the church began to teach that salvation depended on the sacraments, or means of grace. According to church teaching, a sacrament, in the hands of a properly ordained priest (bishop) of the Roman church, became the "infallible conveyor of grace" essentially, it was a humanistic plan of salvation based on man's work; rather than through faith in Jesus Christ.”

   “The Reformation began in 1517 when a monk named Martin Luther protested false doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church by nailing his Ninety-five Theses to the Church door in Wittenbert,  Germany. As others began Studying the Scriptures for themselves, their eyes were opened to, the false teachings of the Roman Church, and they began to see the importance of a personal relationship with God. The Reformation soon spread throughout Europe, bringing a revival of Biblical Christianity, which had been suppressed though never destroyed by Ieaders of the Roman church throughout the Middle Ages.”

  “Romanism and the Bible. God's Word never mentions penance, purgatory, or many other teachings of the medieval Church,but the Bible had fallen into such disuse that few ordinary people knew what it really taught. Over the years, the Roman church elevated the writings of early church leaders, the decisions of councils, and the pronouncements of Popes to an equal Ievel of authority as the Bible. As a result, the Bible lost its place as the basis of  Christian beliefs. Furthermore, the church refused to provide  the Scriptures to the people in their own common languages. The Vulgate, a Latin translation completed by the church leader Jerome in 405, was just about the only version available in the Middle Ages. Because few ordinary people could read Latin, this left the majority of the people in Spiritual darkness, dependent on the priests. Though the Roman church had seriously distorted New Testament Christianity, there were still some both within and without the church who stood for the truth of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The light of the gospel continued to shine throughout the, Middle Ages.”

    “The superstition of the Hindus keeps them living lives of fear. Their gods stand in the  way of the people's health, the country's progress, and the people's knowledge of the one  true God Who promises to take care of all those who follow and trust Him. The Hindus feed, wash. and dress their gods as a child would care for a doll.  How thankful we ought to be that we do not have to take care of our God, but that He will take care of us.”

   “To help them endure the difficulties of slavery, God gave Christian slaves the ability to combine the African heritage of song with the dignity and power of Christian praise. Through the Negro spiritual, the slaves developed patience to wait on the Lord and discovered that the true freedom is freedom from the bondage of sin. By first giving them spiritual freedom, God prepared the slaves for their coming physical freedom. Today, the spiritual is recognized as America's greatest contribution to the field of music.”

      “African religion had many ceremonies involving large groups. These groups might be a single village or several villages from the same clan. Ceremonies celebrated different events, such as initiation for boys and girls. The witch doctor led the people in the rituals performed for the celebration. Almost every group ceremony included music, both vocal and instrumental. And every ceremony had its specific dances to be performed. It was not uncommon for a dancer to become possessed by an evil spirit. Some religious ceremonial dances even had demon possession as their purpose. Every part of these ceremonies-- from rituals to dances--promoted magic and demonism, holding Africa in spiritual darkness.

    This religion, like all false religions, is based on works and cannot give blessing or salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). The strong influence of magic and demonism on African religion made much of African life unhappy and savage. Satan's strong hold on these people kept them worshiping him rather than the true God. Lions were a very real danger to the Africans' bodies, but the roaring lion of the Devil (I Peter 5:8) was a much greater enemy to their souls.”

   “The fear of nuclear war that pervades men’s hearts and motivates our foreign policy-makers is perfectly natural--natural but not spiritual. As Christians we have not been given "the spirit of fear: but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (ll Tim. 1:7).  In spite of who sits in the White House or who rules in the Kremlin, or how many treaties or hydrogen bombs are produced, God is still on the throne, and our confidence is in Him. No one will accidentally "push the button" that destroys the world. God remains in control, and his timetable for the world will not have to be hastily rewritten.”
